Masao Urata1910~1997 浦田正夫

Urata Masao (1910-1997) was a Japanese-style painter born in Yamaga City, Kumamoto Prefecture. He studied under Matsuoka Eikyu and graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1934. He debuted at the 14th Imperial Exhibition in 1933 and continued to exhibit primarily through the Nitten. He received the Japan Art Academy Prize in 1978 for "Pine" and was elected a member of the Japan Art Academy in 1988. He served in various leadership roles at the Nitten and received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Third Class in 1993.
