Masataka Oyabu1937~2016 大藪雅孝

OYABU Masataka (1937-2016) was a Japanese painter born in Seoul who moved to Japan in 1942 and grew up in Kagawa Prefecture. He graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1960 and went on to serve as professor and eventually professor emeritus there. He pioneered a mixed-media technique fusing oil and acrylic paints with traditional Japanese mineral pigments, creating works that transcended the boundaries between Nihonga and Western-style painting. In 2010, he was elected a member of the Russian Academy of Arts. He passed away in September 2016.
