Masayoshi Aigasa1939~ 相笠昌義

Masayoshi Aigasa is a Japanese oil painter and printmaker born in Nihonbashi, Tokyo in 1939. He graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1962, studying under Ryohei Koiso. From the 1970s onward, he has continued to depict scenes of everyday urban life — at train stations, parks, and zoos — with a distinctive blend of realism, humor, and irony. In 1979 he received the Minister of Education's Art Encouragement Prize for New Artists and traveled to Spain as a government-sponsored artist trainee. He won the prestigious Yasui Prize in 1982 for his painting "Afternoon in Carabanchel."
