Munehiro Nakamura1950~ 中村宗弘

NAKAMURA Munehiro is a Japanese-style (nihonga) painter born in 1950 in Zushi, Kanagawa Prefecture. He first studied painting under his grandfather Nakamura Gakuryo, a recipient of the Order of Culture, and in 1971 became a pupil of the celebrated nihonga master Higashiyama Kaii on the recommendation of Kodama Kibo. A graduate of Keio University's Department of Asian History, he won the Hakuju Prize and Tokusen at the 11th Shin-Nitten in 1973 and was elevated to Nitten Kaiyu (associate) in 1975. His landscapes, focused on the four seasons of Kyoto, Shinshu, the Yatsugatake range, and Kamikochi, are based on close observation of nature. He has held solo exhibitions at major department stores including Mitsukoshi Nihombashi and Seibu Ikebukuro, and in 2015 produced the large mural "Seisho" for Hongyoji Temple in Ota Ward, Tokyo.
