Sue Ono1910~1985 小野末

Sue Ono (real name Suekichi, 1910-1985) was a Western-style (Yoga) painter born in Niigata City. After graduating from Niigata Normal School in 1934, he studied under Yasui Sotaro and began as a realist; though briefly drawn to abstract painters such as Fontana, he returned to realism, building tense compositions born from rigorous observation of nature. As a member of the Issuikai he helped found the International Figurative Painters Association and traveled to Europe several times. His representative works include "Early Spring," "Bullfight," "Rocky Mountain," "Sand Dunes of Kabolka," and "Song of the Desert." He received the Issuikai Prize in 1943, the Issuikai Honor Prize in 1950, and the Minister of Education Award in 1982; a retrospective was held at the Tokyo Central Museum in 1978.
