Tadashige Ono1909~1990 小野忠重

ONO Tadashige (1909-1990) was a Japanese printmaker and scholar of print history, old maps, and ukiyo-e, born in Honjo Ward, Tokyo (present-day Sumida Ward). In 1932 he co-founded the Shin-Hanga Shudan (New Print Group) with Fujimaki Yoshio and others, advocating for the popularization of prints, and became a central figure in the Sosaku-hanga (creative print) movement. In 1936 he established the Zokei Hanga Kyokai (Plastic Print Association), publishing the journal "Shin-Hanga" and organizing exhibitions to advance Showa-era creative printmaking. His representative works include the print series "Sandai no Shi" (Death of Three Generations), "Kojoku no Hitobito" (People of the Factory District), and the print collection "Shigaisen" (Street Battle, 1930), which depicted poverty and the sorrows of workers in heavy, socially conscious woodblock style.
