Takashi Oyama1934~ 小山硬

OYAMA Takashi (born 1934) is a Japanese-style painter born in Uto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, who moved to Manchuria at age two and was repatriated from Xinjing in 1946, then lived in Sakata City (Yamagata) before settling in Tokyo for high school. He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts Nihonga Department in 1961, became the last disciple of Maeda Seison, and made his Inten exhibition debut the same year with "Shio (Futari)" at the 46th Inten. He taught at Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music from 1968 (professor from 1981), and at the Inten he received the Japan Art Institute Prize in 1971, the Minister of Education Award in 1981, and the Prime Minister's Award in 1988; he currently serves as a full member of the Japan Art Institute. His lifelong theme has been the hidden Christians (kakure-kirishitan) of Amakusa.
