Takayoshi Sakurai1944~ 櫻井孝美

SAKURAI Takayoshi is a Japanese Western-style painter born in Saitama Prefecture in 1944. He graduated from the Department of Fine Arts, College of Art, Nihon University in 1968 and established his atelier in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture. In 1976 he joined in founding the "Donichikai" group, attracting attention with vivid color and energetic, dynamic compositions. He won the Tokyo Central Museum Oil Painting Grand Prize (1985), the Showa-kai Prize (1987), and the prestigious Yasui Prize (1988), establishing his reputation in the Japanese art world. He received the Medal with Dark Blue Ribbon in 2018 and continues to paint themes celebrating nature, humanity, and life.
