Takeshi Ishida1922~2010 石田武

Takeshi Ishida (1922-2010) was a Japanese-style painter (Nihonga artist) born in Kyoto into a family of Nishijin textile artisans. He studied Japanese painting under Moriaki Mori and Western painting under Kijiro Ota at the Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts. After moving to Tokyo in 1959 and working as an illustrator, he turned to Nihonga in 1971. In 1973, his work "Hayashi" (Forest) won the Grand Prize at the 2nd Yamatane Museum of Art Prize Exhibition. He continued to present realistic works characterized by sharp brushwork until his death on December 24, 2010, at age 88.
