Tatsuo Futaesaku1916~1988 二重作龍夫

FUTAESAKU Tatsuo (1916-1988) was a Japanese yoga painter born in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture. He studied at the painting academy of Kumaoka Yoshihiko and exhibited with the Toko-kai, which Kumaoka co-founded; he was first selected for the Teiten in 1936, won the Toko Prize at the Toko-kai exhibition in 1939, received commendation at the Kokuga-kai exhibition in 1942, and later took a Tokusen prize at the Nitten. He was particularly distinguished overseas, receiving a silver medal at the Salon d'Automne, the Grand Prix at the Nice International Exhibition, and a gold medal at the New York International Exhibition, and was decorated by the French government with the Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur. He was known for paintings of Venice and also frequently depicted Don Quixote and Mt. Fuji.
