Tetsuo Matsumoto1943~2012 松本哲男

Matsumoto Tetsuo was a Japanese-style painter (nihonga) and educator born on July 29, 1943 in Sano, Tochigi Prefecture. After graduating from the Faculty of Education at Utsunomiya University, he worked as a high school art teacher and later studied under nihonga master Konno Chuichi. Known for his grand landscape paintings depicting nature and historical sites around the world, he won numerous awards including the Minister of Education Award at the 74th Inten exhibition (1989) and the Prime Minister's Award at the 78th Inten (1993). He served as a director of the Japan Art Institute and was president of Tohoku University of Art and Design from 2006 to 2011. He died of respiratory failure on November 15, 2012.
