Toichiryo Fujimoto1913~1998 藤本東一良

FUJIMOTO Toichiryo (1913-1998) was a Japanese yoga painter born in Shimoda, Shizuoka Prefecture, who soon moved to Osaka. He studied under Kanokogi Takeshiro and Akamatsu Rinsaku from 1930, entered the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1935, and traveled to the South Seas in 1937 inspired by his admiration for Paul Gauguin. He was first selected at the Kofu-kai exhibition in 1939, becoming a Kofu-kai member in 1946 and a Nitten member in 1960; he visited France in 1953. He became renowned for landscapes of southern Europe and Japan rendered with rhythmic brushwork and bright, clear color. In 1993 he received the Japan Art Academy Prize and the Imperial Prize, was elected a member of the Japan Art Academy, and taught at Tokyo University of Education and Kanazawa College of Art.
