Yoshiyuki Chosa1915~2002 帖佐美行

Chosa Yoshiyuki, born March 25, 1915 in Miyanojo, Satsuma District, Kagoshima Prefecture, was a leading Japanese chokin (metal-engraving) artist. He moved to Tokyo at age thirteen, studying under the chokin master Kobayashi Shoun from 1930 and under Unno Kiyoshi from 1940. He was first selected at the 5th Shin-Bunten in 1942 and won consecutive Tokusen prizes at the Nitten in 1954 and 1955, going on to serve as Nitten judge and managing director, member of the Japan Art Academy, and founder of the Japan New Crafts Association in 1978. He was named a Person of Cultural Merit in 1987 and received the Order of Culture in 1993, and is regarded as the foremost figure of modern Japanese chokin craft.
