Yuji Misu1927~2010 三栖右嗣

Misu Yuji (real name: Misu Eiji) was a Japanese yoga painter born in Kanagawa Prefecture. He graduated from the oil painting department of the Tokyo University of the Arts (Yasui Sotaro's studio) in 1952 and began exhibiting with the Issuikai in 1954. In 1972 he met Andrew Wyeth in the United States and was deeply influenced by him; in 1975 he received the grand prize at the contemporary painting competition "Painting the Sea" held for Expo '75 in Okinawa. In 1976 he won the Yasui Prize for his work "Oiru" ("Aging") and earned high acclaim for his realist style. He died of heart failure in April 2010 in Ranzan, Saitama Prefecture, at age 82.
