Yuki Ogura1895~2000 小倉遊亀

Yuki Ogura (1895-2000) was a Japanese-style painter (Nihonga) born in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. After studying under Yasuda Yukihiko, she became the first woman to be recommended as a member of the Japan Art Institute in 1932. Her work evolved from early detailed depictions to bold compositions influenced by Western masters such as Matisse and Picasso, eventually reaching a mature style of pure colors and clearly defined forms. Her representative works include “Madame O Seated,” “Young Girl,” “Bathing Woman,” and “Mother and Child.” She received the Japan Art Academy Prize in 1962 and the Order of Culture in 1980 (the second female painter to receive it after Uemura Shoen), living to the age of 105.
